TAGS - Frequently Asked Questions

General information

Q. Can I schedule teams in different divisions that share the same fields.

A. Yes, you can have dozens of divisions in different leagues all sharing the same fields without conflict.  There are restrictions.  The first team in every division is home and away and the first team in the second half of each division is away and home.

Q. Can I check for any field game and time conflicts amongst leagues.

A. Yes. TAGS allows you to schedule any number of leagues and divisions all at the same time. Any field conflicts are reported. Conflicts do occur when the schedules become sufficiently complex, such as when different sized divisions with different game lengths must share fields, but the conflicts are reported. Never again will four teams show up expecting to play on the same field and time!  When conflicts are found you can can the field or the time.  Refresh the conflicts report to find more.

Q. Can I schedule divisions that crossover their schedules and play each other.

A. Yes, you can have crossover schedules between two divisions.  A crossover is when each team in a division following a round robin plays every team in the other division once.  The crossover games are at the end of the schedule. Another type of crossover schedule occurs when two divisions each have bye games.  The crossover games are when the teams with the bye games play.  These situations usually occur when you have too many teams for an age group and level.

Q. Can I schedule leagues at different times?

A. Yes.  You can create schedules for leagues then weeks later add a new league without disturbing the existing schedules.  The schedules for the new league and divisions all be included with all the others.  Teams can be paired with existing teams so that field use can be maximized.

Q. Can I start at week 5?

A. Yes.  You can start or restart leagues or divisions to play any round on any date.

Q. Can I schedule leagues for different days?

A. Yes.  You can schedule any league to play on certain dates.  Indeed, you can schedule divisions to play any round on any date.

Q. We like to reschedule after 4 weeks of play.  Is this possible?

A. Yes.  It may be necessary to reschedule divisions or leagues after changes.  You can move the teams from one division to another or drop teams at any time and then recreate the schedules.

Q. Some teams play 60 minutes, yet others play 90.  Can TAGS handle that?

A. Yes.  Game lengths are defaulted to 90 minutes, but the game length can be over-ridden at the divisional level.  If you want the default to be 60 minutes or 67 minutes you can change that too.

Q. Can I schedule my teams so they all have a home field and starting time that never changes.

A. Yes, this is exactly what TAGS was designed to accomplish. Each team plays their home games on the same field and time.  Actually 2 teams are scheduled for each field and time, but play home games on alternate play dates.

Q. Can I make cross over divisional schedules?

A. No. Not at this time. Cross over schedules are when two divisions play a round robin each then play each team in the other division once. There are other combinations as this is one example.

Q. Can I record and publish results and standings with TAGS.

A. No. Not at this time. This feature will be available soon.

Q. Can I coordinate my work with other schedulers.

A. Yes.  If the rounds and dates of play are the same it is possible to coordinate teams so that fields are shared.  It does not matter that Fred is doing a schedule that could conflict with Betty because their schedules share fields.  Fred and Betty can ensure a conflict free schedule by following the rules.

Q. Can I import data into TAGS?

A. Yes, you can import a CSV file into TAGS.  CSV is a comma separated value file.    However, it must be identical to the file you can export from TAGS. The text fields are enclosed with quotation marks.  If you use Excel it is a moot point as Excel will remove on import and add the quotation marks on export.  Export the data in TAGS to a CSV file then modify.  Start in TAGS and add the teams in Excel.

Q. Can I export data from TAGS?

A. Yes.  TAGS data can be exported to CSV  files, which is covered in the above discussion above.  However, the easiest and best way to import data from TAGS is to use Windows cut and paste methods on the generated web pages.  For example, scorekeepers can go to a scorekeeper report and by using cut and paste methods they can copy the report into their Excel spreadsheets.  For anyone who is not familiar with this technique it is a mind-blower!

Q.  What is cut and paste?  How?

A.  Find the page you want.  Then highlight the text you want by clicking and holding down the mouse button while moving the mouse.  Once you have an area highlighted you can release the mouse button and then press the 'Ctrl' key and the 'C' keys at the same time.  This will copy the highlighted area into something called the clipboard.  You can't see it, but it has been saved along with some formatting.  Next, you can open Excel, Word, Paint or most Windows programs, position the cursor where you want to copy and then press the 'Ctrl' and 'V' keys at the same time.  Like magic, your text appears and is often formatted very close to what you wanted.
